PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a negative electrode material for a lithium ion battery, capable of being produced in a simple process and consequently suppressing production costs, and a method for producing the negative electrode material for a lithium ion battery.SOLUTION: A method for producing a negative electrode material for a lithium ion battery includes: a crushing step (S1) of charging coarse powder comprising Si or an Si alloy as a negative electrode active material together with a hard sphere in a closed space partitioned by a wall and agitating the coarse powder to be crushed; and an agglutinating step (S3) of charging conductive base material powder in the closed space and further agitating the conductive base material powder to be agglutinated.
