Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device for an internal combustion engine capable of activating the engine catalyst at an early stage when the internal combustion engine is to be started in cold condition.SOLUTION: The control device for the internal combustion engine 1 having a plurality of cylinders is equipped with first fuel injection valves 17 to inject the fuel into the combustion chambers 6 of the cylinders, second fuel injection valves 18 to inject the fuel into suction passages Ri, ignition plugs 29 to ignite the fuel, the catalyst 15 to purify the exhaust gas in the exhaust passage Re, and a catalyst temperature rise control means A3 to raise the temperature of the catalyst 15 by putting the ignition timing of each ignition plug in angle retard control, wherein the catalyst temperature rise control means A3 has a first temperature rising mode M1 to perform fuel injection in which the injection timing of the first fuel injection valves 17 is set as compression stroke while the injection timing of the second fuel injection valves 18 is set as exhaust stroke, and a second temperature rising mode M2 in which the injection timing of the first fuel injection valves is set as compression stroke while the injection timing of the second fuel injection valves is arranged so that part of the cylinders is/are set to the suction stroke and the other cylinders are set to the exhaust stroke, after the first temperature rising mode.
