Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To adjust a hydrogen supply quantity by controlling the equivalent ratio of an air-fuel mixture, by restraining the occurrence of knocking by supplying hydrogen to an intake passage, with a simple constitution of using an exhaust emission control three-way catalyst and an EGR system.SOLUTION: This control device includes the three-way catalyst 13 for generating the hydrogen by aqueous gas shift reaction under a predetermined condition, and the EGR system 18 for recirculating a part of exhaust gas to the intake passage 11 via an EGR passage 19 from an exhaust passage 12 on the downstream side of the three-way catalyst 13 and controlling its EGR ratio in response to an engine operation state, and is constituted so that a part of the hydrogen generated by the tree-way catalyst 13 is supplied to the intake passage 11 side together with the exhaust gas via the EGR passage 19 in an EGR area. The equivalent ratio of the air-fuel mixture is controlled based on the EGR ratio and the catalyst temperature so as to optimize the hydrogen supply quantity to the intake passage 11 side.
