Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mold powder for the continuous casting of steel, which has both high viscosity and high basicity and which can cool a cast steel piece slowly while keeping lubricity inside a mold.SOLUTION: The invention relates to the mold powder for the continuous casting of steel, which has a CaO/SiOmass ratio of 1.1-1.5 and contains 10-25 mass% AlO, 12-20 mass% NaO, and 1-15 mass% total carbon. The mold powder has a viscosity of 0.1-1.0 Pa s at the temperature of 1,300°C, and its crystallization temperature is 900-1,240°C. When the powder is melted and cooled, a crystal mainly composed of NaO, AlOand SiOis produced.
