In a liquid crystal display apparatus in which a liquid crystal layer 105 in the state of applying no voltage is substantially vertical aligned, an angle between polarizing axes of the pair of linear polarizers is 85 degrees or larger and smaller than 90 degrees. In a liquid crystal display apparatus of a lateral electric field drive system, a uniaxial alignment angle of a liquid crystal layer 105 in the state of applying no voltage is larger than -45 degrees and -40 degrees or smaller, or +40 degrees or larger and smaller than +45 degrees (As for "angle", the three o'clock direction of a clock when viewed from the front face thereof is regarded as 0 degree, the clockwise direction therefrom is regarded as +, and the counterclockwise direction therefrom is regarded as -.
