Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for treating a cotton fabric, which improves a water evaporation property, and unpleasantness such as stickiness caused by sweat and coldness after sweating, and which gives a cotton fabric directly contacting skin a water diffusion promoting ability, and to provide a water diffusion promoter for giving a water diffusion promoting ability a cotton fabric directly contacting skin.SOLUTION: [1] There is provided a method for treating a cotton fabric that gives a cotton fabric a water diffusion promoting ability by applying 0.1-50 mass% of a benzene monosulfonic acid derivative (A) represented by the following general formula (1) to the cotton fabric per unit mass before it is worn, that is, it directly contacts skin. [2] Also, there is provided a water diffusion promoter that contains the benzene monosulfonic acid derivative (A) and is used for the method for treating a cotton fabric. (In the formula, Rrepresents a hydrogen atom or an alkali metal atom, and each of R-Rrepresents a hydrogen atom, a hydroxy group, or a 1-4C hydrocarbon group.)
