FRICTION PAPER AND PRODUCTION METHOD THEREOF

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a friction paper having high mechanical strength and excellent oil permeability, and to provide a production method thereof.SOLUTION: There is provided a friction paper comprising an aromatic polyamide fibrid. The friction paper contains a phenol resin and has a basis weight of 100 to 500 g/m. In a cross section of the friction paper, both outer layers respectively have a resin content of 30 to 50 wt.% within the range of 0.1 mm from the surface, and an intermediate layer nipped between the both outer layers has a resin content of 15 to 25 wt.%. In order for producing the aforementioned friction paper, the aromatic polyamide fibrid is made into a sheet like article. The sheet like article is impregnated with a phenol resin or a phenol resin containing solution having viscosity of 5 to 200 mPa s at 25°C such that the phenol resin content is 20 to 45 wt.% based on the amount of the sheet like article, and is heat pressed at a temperature of 150 to 170°C and a surface pressure of 42 to 59 kg/cm.
