SPLIT-BODIED INSULATED CAVITY FOR FILE CABINET

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To protect stored items from fire, even if fire-resistant insulation materials are not mounted entirely on an outer housing, by providing a fire-resistant cavity portion in each drawer of a fire-rated file cabinet.SOLUTION: A file cabinet 10 includes an outer housing 11 defining an opening, and file drawer assemblies 22a, 22b slidably disposed within the opening. The file drawer assembly 22b also includes, for example, an open-ended storage box 46. The file cabinet 10 further includes a split-bodied fire-resistant cavity 24b including a first cavity portion and a second cavity portion. The first cavity portion is mounted within the outer housing 11, and the second cavity portion is mounted to the file drawer assembly 22b and is configured to surround a portion of the open-ended storage box 46. The first and second cavity portions are configured to join together at the mating interface to entirely surround the open-ended storage box 46 when the at least one file drawer assembly 22b is in a closed position.
