IMAGE PROCESSING METHOD AND IMAGE OUTPUT DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing method and an image output device that create a profile for accurately reproducing a color reproduction characteristic which an observer senses under a general observation environment, and output an image.SOLUTION: Color information is corrected in accordance with information that includes a condition concerning an object other than surrounding illumination under an observation environment, particularly a wall is corrected. Reflection light from a color chart printed by an image output device under an observation environment containing illumination light and reflection light other than the illumination light is measured by a spectroradiometer to achieve a first color space, and image data defined by the first color space is input. The image data is converted to image data defined by a second color space having no device-dependency, and further subjected to color mapping to achieve image data which is defined by the second color space and corresponds to the inside of the color reproduction area of the image output device. A lookup table is created from the image data and the image data which is defined by the first color space and represents the color chart, and the lookup table is applied to image data used for actual print.
