PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To be able to control the air replacement flow between a crushing device mechanism part and a toilet bowl body, and prevent the splash of waste water or the like.SOLUTION: A toilet apparatus includes: a crushing device 2, provided under a toilet bowl body 1, for crushing excreta and wash water for washing a toilet bowl; a gate valve mechanism part 2a, openably/closably disposed between the toilet bowl body 1 and the crushing device 2, for storing the wash water for washing the toilet bowl in the bottom of the toilet bowl body 1; a gate valve motor 2c for opening/closing the gate valve mechanism part 2a; a toilet lid opening/closing detection sensor 11 for detecting the beginning of use of the toilet bowl body 1 and outputting an opening/closing detection signal; and a control unit 8 for controlling the gate valve motor 2c so as to perform an opening operation of the gate valve mechanism part 2a and form a small gap between the toilet bowl body 1 and the crushing device 2, and communicate between them when receiving a lid opening/closing detection signal S11 and detecting the beginning of use of the toilet bowl body 1.
