Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wide band phase plate capable of being used for an optical head device used for three-wavelength compatibility.SOLUTION: A wide band phase plate includes a layer 304 composed of a birefringent material and one transparent substrate 301 holding the layer 304 composed of the birefringent material. The wide band phase plate generates respective phase differences of about (2m-1)×λ/4 for a light flux of 410 nm wavelength band, about (2m-1)×λ/4 for a light flux of 660 nm wavelength band, and about m×λ for a light flux of 780 nm wavelength band (λ is a wavelength, and m, mand mare natural numbers).
