Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst for producing, with high productivity, α,β-unsaturated carboxylic acid from alcohol, olefin or α,β-unsaturated aldehyde.SOLUTION: A carrier which carries a palladium compound in which the palladium element is in an oxidative state is dipped in a solution of a tellurium compound in which the tellurium element is in an oxidative state, and, within 10 minutes after that, the reduction of the palladium and tellurium elements is started to gain a catalyst which contains and carries palladium, wherein the carrier carries the palladium metal and the tellurium metal; or a carrier which carries palladium metal in which the palladium element is in a metallic state is dipped in a solution of a tellurium compound in which the tellurium element is in an oxidative state, and, within 10 minutes after that, the reduction of the tellurium element is started to gain the catalyst which contains and carries palladium, wherein the carrier carries the palladium metal and the tellurium metal.
