Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To appropriately determine between a single compression start and a double compression start based on accurate information of a piston stop position.SOLUTION: A crank angle sensor SW2 for outputting a pulse signal according to passage of a plurality of teeth 25a provided on the outer circumferential part of a crank plate 25 is provided to the engine. The crank plate 25 has a non-toothed portion 25b as a reference for cylinder determination. When the engine automatically stops, the piston stop position of a cylinder that has stopped in a compression stroke is specified based on a detection signal of the crank angle sensor SW2, and at restarting of the engine, either one of the single compression start for injecting the first fuel to the cylinder that has stopped in the compression stroke, and the double compression start for injecting the first fuel to a cylinder that has stopped in an intake stroke is performed according to whether the piston stop position is at the bottom dead center side or the top dead center side than a specific position R. The non-toothed portion 25b of the crank plate 25 is provided within a range X which is an angle range S corresponding to the front half of the compression stroke minus a region SR corresponding to the specific position R.
