Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cutting tool having the service life longer than before and a method for manufacturing the same.SOLUTION: The cutting tool is used together with a cutting fluid 4 when cutting is performed under such a condition that spiral chips and/or chips having 0.05-0.21 μm median diameter are generated. The cutting tool includes a base material 1 and a hard layer 2 formed on the base material 1 in a cutting edge portion at the least. The surface roughness Ra of the cutting edge portion is 0.175-0.3 μm. Since the cutting resistance between a material 6 to be cut and this cutting tool is low and chips 5a each having prescribed size are hard to be stuck to the cutting edge portion, the service life of this cutting tool can be made longer.
