Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a filter material for liquid which has a filter layer with a fine fiber diameter, is small in thickness, and has sufficient rigidity for pleating, and to provide a filter material for liquid suitable, for example, for a long life filter for an electric discharge machine while improving performance for collecting fine particles of several micrometers generated by electric discharge machining.SOLUTION: In the filter material for liquid obtained by layering a filter layer and a support layer, the filter layer comprises a synthetic fiber nonwoven fabric having an average fiber diameter of 0.4-1.2 μm and an areal weight of 20-70 g/m. The filter material for liquid has a bending strength of 0.5 mN or above, a thickness of 0.45 mm or below, and an air permeability of 0.8-6 cc/cm/sec.
