Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a premixed compression self-ignition engine, which allows ignition by spark ignition of premixed gas without using a complicated variable valve gear during starting, and which can obtain high heat efficiency by promoting self ignition of the premixed gas after starting.SOLUTION: In the premixed compression self-ignition engine, the premixed gas obtained by mixing fuel gas and air is supplied to a combustion chamber 4 for self ignition under a high compression ratio. The premixed compression self-ignition engine includes: an ignition plug 10 for facing an electrode to the combustion chamber 4; a valve gear 21 for operating so as to provide a negative overlap period θ in which an exhaust valve 20b and an intake valve 20a are both closed during an exhaust stroke and a suction stroke; and an electronic control unit 40 for operating the ignition plug 10 in the negative overlap period θ during starting.
