SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR MANAGING RESOURCES IN LOGICALLY-PARTITIONED COMPUTING SYSTEM BASED ON RESOURCE USAGE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a resource saturation state in a logically-partitioned computing system including a plurality of logical partitions, i.e., partitions.SOLUTION: A method comprises the steps of: detecting and tracking resource usage of each logical partition (102); computing a resource usage gain/loss based on the result thereon (104); computing an average and a variation of the resource usage using the computed resource usage gain/loss (106 and 108); and determining current resource usage (110). The method further comprises the steps of: determining a risk of resource saturation by comparing the computed variation of resource usage with the determined current resource usage of each partition (112); and managing resources in a logically partitioned computing system using the determined risk of resource saturation (114). The resource may include CPU, I/O and memory.
