Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel combustion pump which is operated surely and constituted compactly by improving a high pressure fuel pump for an internal combustion engine.SOLUTION: The high pressure fuel pump for the internal combustion engine which is operated surely and composed compactly is provided by improving a high pressure fuel pump 10 for the internal combustion engine 9 of a direct injection type of a form in which the high pressure fuel pump has a low pressure region 12 and a flow rate control device, the flow rate control device has a selector valve 28, the selector valve 28 is arranged upstream from the force-feeding chamber 32 of the high pressure fuel pump 10, and the valve has at least one opened first switching position 84 and a closed second switching position 82. A fluid throttle valve 29 arranged in parallel to the selector valve fluidally is provided for the selector valve 28.
