CYLINDRICAL OPTICAL COMPONENT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical component capable of making an optical isolator and other optical elements which are installed in an optical communication package compact in size, and capable of fixing them at sufficient strength.SOLUTION: The optical component includes: a holder 1 having an annular member 1a with an opening 2 at its center, and a projecting portion 1b formed around the opening 2 so as to be vertical to the plane of the opening; and an optical element 6 mounted to the projecting portion 1b opposite to the opening 2. Since the optical element 6 is not stuck around the opening 2, the need for a sticking margin is eliminated. Thus, the optical element 6 can be reduced in size.
