Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spring steel wire which has excellent durability and settling resistance without using expensive material, and a spring using the same.SOLUTION: The spring steel wire comprises, by mass, 0.63 to 0.68% C, 1.20 to 1.60% Si, 0.50 to 0.80% Mn, 0.50 to 0.80% Cr and 0.10 to 0.20% V, and the balance Fe, in which the grain size number of old austenite grain sizes in the cross section is 12.5 to 13.5, and also, the density of carbides with a size of ≥0.1 μm diameter equivalent to a circle is ≤5 pieces/μmin the transmission electron microscope. The spring using the same has a residual shear strain of ≤0.055% after the application of 800 to 1,000 shear stress at 120°C for 48 hr, and is not broken even if prescribed amplitude stress is repeatedly applied for 3.0×10times.
