Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing highly pure monoethylene glycol by a simple operation using a simple apparatus from a recovered ethylene glycol used as a starting material, which yields the monoethylene glycol excellent in quality aspect, particularly ultraviolet transmittance and ultraviolet absorbance after heating, and is excellent in terms of production cost.SOLUTION: The method for producing the highly pure monoethylene glycol uses a liquid containing recovered ethylene glycol as the starting material and comprises steps of: subjecting the liquid containing the recovered ethylene glycol to a heat treatment in the presence of an alkaline substance; dissolving an acidic substance in the heat-treated liquid containing ethylene glycol; and subsequently purifying the liquid containing ethylene glycol in the presence of an acid, thereby producing the highly pure monoethylene glycol.
