Zusammenfassung: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a trimethylolpropane polyglycidyl ether with low viscosity and small whole chlorine content obtained by an industrially satisfied method, and to provide an epoxy resin composition capable of obtaining a cured product having a high glass transition temperature when the compound is formulated and cured. SOLUTION: The glycidyl ether is obtained by reacting 2-15 mol of epichlorohydrine with one equivalent of a hydroxyl group of trimethylolpropan in the presence of an alkali metal hydroxide and an inter-layer movement catalyst of a quaternary salt at ordinary pressure. The problem is solved by the polyglycidyl ether of the trimethylolpropane having a viscosity at 25°C of 300 mPa s or less, the whole chlorine content of 0.7 wt.% or less and an epoxy equivalent of 140 g/eq or less and the epoxy resin composition containing the compound, the other epoxy resin and a curing agent as indispensable components.
