Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for simultaneously, simply, and specifically isolating and detecting a virus nucleic acid from a biological sample possibly containing at least one kind of virus. SOLUTION: The virus detection method includes (a) a step of preparing a mixture by mixing the biological sample and a composition for dissociating the virus nucleic acid and other steps (b) to (e), wherein the composition for dissociating the virus nucleic acid contains at least one kind of a chaotropic agent selected from guanidine thiocyanate, guanidine hydrochloride and sodium iodide, an anionic surfactant and a reducing agent, and the concentration of the anionic surfactant in the mixture in the step (a) is not less than 2.5 mass% and not more than 30 mass%.
