Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a biaxially oriented polyester film which, when formed into a magnetic recording medium, hardly causes a dimensional change due to an environmental change, is excellent in storage stability, also is excellent in surface properties, and has preferable travelling properties and electromagnetic conversion characteristics. SOLUTION: The biaxially oriented polyester film having a layer constitution of at least two layers has at least one layer (R layer) containing inactive particles of 0.2 to 3 mass%, wherein a Young modulus in the width direction is 7.5 to 15 GPa and a creep compliance at 50°C, 30 min under load of 28 MPa in a longitudinal direction is 0.10 to 0.35 GPa-1.
