SEAL RING FOR MECHANICAL SEAL AND METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a seal ring for a mechanical seal made of an SiC sliding member excellent in durability and reliability, by lessening or solving inconvenience of increasing a friction coefficient even in severe environment such as a condition of insufficient lubrication of a sliding part with lubricating liquid or a dry condition. SOLUTION: The mechanical seal M includes: a rotary-side seal ring 2 rotated integrally with a rotational shaft 1; a stationary-side seal ring 4 relatively fixed to a housing 3; and an elastic mechanism 5 making sliding faces 2a, 4a of the rotary-side and stationary-side seal rings 2, 4 be pressed against each other. In the seal ring for the mechanical seal made of the SiC sliding member, in which a permeation leakage quantity F of the liquid per unit time from an outer circumferential face 2b to an inner circumferential face 2c of a rotary seal ring 2 or a ring-like body formed by processing the rotary seal ring 2 in a predetermined standard dimension is defined by a range of 0.01 ml/24hr≤F≤500 ml/1hr.
