PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a network device capable of performing transition to a power saving mode during which power consumption is suppressed in accordance with the quantity of received packets, while maintaining an established connection. SOLUTION: The network device operates under a first operating mode or a second operating mode during which power consumption is lower than that during the first operating mode, and the network device includes: a communication section for establishing a connection over a network; and a control section for processing data received by the communication section or processing data to be transmitted to the network and outputting the processed data to the communication section. When the amount of data received by the communication section over the network within a fixed time is less than a threshold value, the network device performs transition from the first operating mode to the second operating mode, the control section is suspended, and the connection is maintained by the communication section.
