COMMUNICATION EQUIPMENT, MASTER AND SLAVE DETERMINATION METHOD, AND COMPUTER PROGRAM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To more simply determine roles of two pieces of communication equipment such as modems compared to the conventional case. SOLUTION: A modem 10A is provided with: a master side message exchange processing part 105 which exchanges messages for establishing a link with a modem 10B as a master; a slave side message exchange processing part 106 which exchanges the messages with the modem 10B as a slave; a master/slave determination part 101 which makes the master side message exchange processing part 105 and the slave side message exchange processing part 106 mutually exchange the messages at random time intervals; and a link establishment processing part 107 which establishes the modem 10A itself as the master when exchange of the messages is normally completed by the master side message exchange processing part 105, and establishes the modem 10A itself as the slave when the exchange of the messages is normally completed by the slave side message exchange processing part 106 to perform line setting for establishing the link.
