Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a semiconductor laser element and a semiconductor laser array, which are usable as a light source for a plant factory and a light source for excitation of a phosphor, and can reduce facility cost and power consumption compared to a high pressure sodium lamp and a light-emitting diode. SOLUTION: The semiconductor laser element 30 having a pair of resonator surfaces facing each other includes: a semiconductor substrate 1 of a first conductivity; an active layer 5 formed below the semiconductor substrate 1, generating a laser light La emitted outward from the pair of resonator surfaces, and generating a spontaneous emission light Lb toward the semiconductor substrate 1; a ridge 14 of a second conductivity formed below the active layer 5; a first electrode 19 (20) connected to the ridge 14; and a second electrode 26 connected to the semiconductor substrate 1, wherein the spontaneous emission light Lb is emitted outward from a region corresponding to a region of the semiconductor substrate 1 where the ridge 14 is formed.
