Zusammenfassung: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-efficiency and high-reliability motor control system, as well as, a method for controlling the motor. SOLUTION: The motor control system includes a motor 1 having a plurality of sets of armature windings 1-A, 1-B, 1-C, 1-D, a plurality of inverters 11A, 11B, 11C, 11D which drive the plurality of sets of armature windings, and a plurality of control devices which control the respective inverters individually. When a torque command is in the smallest magnitude range that corresponds to a motor torque command τc, the inverter 11A is operated to energize the armature winding 1-A; when the torque command is increased to a next larger magnitude range, the inverters 11A and 11B are operated to energize the armature windings 1-A and 1-B; when the torque command, further, is increased into the next larger magnitude range, the inverters 11A, 11B and 11C are operated to energize the armature windings 1-A, 1-B, 1-C; when the torque command increases into the largest magnitude range, all the inverters are operated to energize all the armature windings; and thus, in response to the torque command, the number of inverters driven and/or the number of sets of armature windings energized are changed sequentially.
