Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording apparatus in which the progress of printing is observed, and a printing failure due to an external light can be prevented at low cost. SOLUTION: The recording apparatus includes: a casing 1 for a recording medium 7 to pass therethrough, and having a transparent window 8 formed on the upper part thereof; a carriage 12 supporting a recording head 10, and movable above the recording medium 7 within the casing 1; and a sensor 11 provided on the carriage 12, with the light intensity detection range thereof set beneath the carriage 12. The window 8 is disposed such that no straight line extending from any points on the window 8 to any points below the carriage 12 via the casing 1 passes the detection range.
