Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an industrially advantageous method for producing butadiene from ethylene. SOLUTION: The method for producing butadiene comprises the following steps (I) and (II): the step (I) for producing n-butene substantially free from isobutene by dimerizing ethylene at a reaction temperature of 150-400°C in the presence of a catalyst composed of nickel, alumina and silica having a nickel content of 0.0001-1 wt.%; and the step (II) for producing butadiene by oxidative dehydrogenation reaction of n-butene obtained by the step (I) and oxygen at a reaction temperature of 300-600°C in the presence of a complex metal oxide comprising as essential ingredients molybdenum and bismuth.
