Zusammenfassung: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing fine particles having the average particle size of submicrometer size (≤1 μm), in which production of coarse particles each having the particle size exceeding 1 μm can be suppressed. SOLUTION: The method for producing fine particles comprises a step of performing a hydrolysis/condensation reaction of a metal compound having a hydrolyzable group and/or a condensable group in a reaction tank 1 including an agitation shaft 2 with an agitation blade and an addition port 3. The agitation shaft 2 is placed in the center part of the reaction tank and the addition port 3 is arranged between the agitation shaft 2 and the wall surface of the reaction tank 1. The metal compound is jetted to the wall surface of the reaction tank 1 from the addition port 3 and added to the reaction tank 1 in a range where an angle θ1 formed by a straight line X connecting the agitation shaft 2 and the addition port 3 and a line segment Y1formed by projecting the adding direction of the metal compound on the horizontal plane is -90° to 90° when the rotating direction of the agitation shaft 2 is defined as a positive direction.
