Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elevator improved in safety by urgently stopping before the car comes out of guide rails by an earthquake beyond a strong earthquake of intensity 5 upper and holding the guide rails by an electromagnetic emergency stopper to reliably prevent the car from falling. SOLUTION: This elevator includes a hoistway, the guide rails vertically installed in the hoistway, the car vertically moving in the hoistway along the guide rails, the electromagnetic emergency stopper which is installed in the car, holds the guide rails, and fixes the car to the guide rails, and an earthquake sensor capable of sensing earthquakes for each intensity and/or an emergency earthquake advance report receiver for receiving an earthquake advance report from the outside of the elevator. The elevator further includes a control unit for controllably fixing the car to the guide rails by the electromagnetic emergency stopper after the car is stopped at the nearest story based on the determination of sensing of earthquake for each intensity by the earthquake sensor or the emergency earthquake advance report receiver, or controllably urgently stopping the car by the electromagnetic emergency stopper immediately after the determination of sensing of earthquake.
