Zusammenfassung: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steel for surface-hardening treatment which can sufficiently reduce heat treatment strain produced by quenching after surface treatment, and is suitable for obtaining a high-strength surface-hardened component having high dimensional precision. SOLUTION: The steel for surface-hardening treatment has a chemical composition comprising, by mass, 0.10 to 0.30% C, ≤0.35% Si, 0.15 to 1.5% Mn, ≤0.04% P, 0.001 to 0.07% S, 1.5 to 3.0% Cr, 0.02 to 0.05% Al, 0.0035 to 0.0100% N, 0.005 to 0.10% Ti and 0.0005 to 0.0050% B, and satisfying [4.1≤DI=0.311×C0.5×(1+0.64×Si)×(1+4.10×Mn)×(1+2.83×P)×(1-0.62×S)×(1+2.33×Cr)×(1+3.14×Mo)×ä1+1.5×(0.90-C)}≤20.0], and in which the standard deviation of DI in the cross-section is ≤0.25, and the balance Fe with impurities.
