Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new hemoglobin composition, especially a new recombinant mutant hemoglobin composition, which excludes or substantially reduces (1) generation of heart injury, (2) discomfort of digestive tract, (3) pressor effect, and (4) endotoxin hypersensitivity, associated with the administration of an extracellular hemoglobin composition in various therapeutic applications. SOLUTION: Applications described include: treatments for anemia, heart injury, hemorrhage or hypovolemia, ischemia, cachexia, sickle cell crisis and stroke; enhancement in cancer treatments; stimulation of hematopoiesis; improvement in repair of physically damaged tissues; alleviation of cardiogenic shock; and shock resuscitation.
