Zusammenfassung: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water-dispersible fiber and fibrous articles prepared therefrom that exhibit adequate tensile strength, absorptivity, flexibility, and fabric integrity in the presence of moisture, especially upon exposure to human bodily fluids (a fibrous article is needed that does not require a binder and completely disperses or dissolves in residential or municipal sewerage systems). SOLUTION: There are disclosed water-dispersible fibers derived from sulfopolyesters having a Tg of at least 25°C, or a blend of a sulfopolyester with a water-dispersible or water-nondispersible polymer. Also, there are disclosed multicomponent fibers comprising a water dispersible sulfopolyester having a Tg of at least 57°C and a water non-dispersible polymer. The multicomponent fibers may be used to produce microdenier fibers. Fibrous articles may be produced from the water-dispersible fibers, multicomponent fibers, and microdenier fibers.
