METHOD FOR MODIFYING NON- OR SLIGHTLY-CAKING COAL AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING COKE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for modifying non- or slightly-caking coal having high degree of coalification, with which the non- or slightly-caking coal that exhibits high degree of coalification and has low fluidity is converted into the equivalent of the caking coal usable as the raw material in manufacture of the coke for use in iron manufacturing or the like. SOLUTION: The method for modifying non- or slightly-caking coal, with which the non- or slightly-caking coal that exhibits high degree of coalification and has low fluidity is converted into the equivalent of the caking coal, includes at least a modification step of heating a mixture or kneaded material which is obtained by mixing or kneading powdery non- or slightly-caking coal with heavy oil rich in aromaticity, at 350-450°C to modify the non- or slightly-caking coal. The non- or slightly-caking coal to be modified has 0.85-1.6 mean reflectance (Ro) showing the degree of coalification, ≤10 ddpm maximum fluidity (MF) showing the fluidity and >50% ratio of the total of an active component and the component deemed to be the active component in a half inactive component, which is obtained by a measurement method based on maceral analysis of coal.
