Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a position detecting device and shift device, capable of simplifying a construction containing a magnetizing pattern to a magnet, and ensuring reliability on position detection. SOLUTION: The magnetizing pattern of a magnet 15 and a relative positional relationship of magnetic sensors 16a -16g to the magnet 15 are arranged so that a combination of binary signals generated in the magnetic sensors 16a-16g forms a hamming code. Accordingly, the shift device can correct the combination of erroneous binary signals containing the binary signals generated in the magnetic sensors into an accurate combination of binary signals even when a certain failure has occurred in a magnetic sensor. Furthermore, even when certain failures have occurred in two magnetic sensors, the occurrence of failures can be detected. COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
