Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve productivity while maintaining image quality and durability of a roller or the like in a paper conveying method for an image forming apparatus including a registration roller pair disposed between a paper feeding part and an image forming part. SOLUTION: The registration roller pair 3 includes a forward-rotation registration roller 21 which rotates to convey the paper to the image forming part 2, and a backward-rotation registration roller 22 which rotates to return the paper to the paper feeding part, wherein a frictional coefficient of each of the registration rollers 21 and 22 is set to establish a relationship of μA>μC>μB (wherein μA is a frictional force between the forward-rotation registration roller and the paper, μB is a frictional force between the papers, μC is a frictional force between the backward-rotation registration roller and the paper). A high-productivity conveying method to convey the paper in the state where a distance between the preceding paper and the subsequent paper becomes zero or nearly zero, and a low-productivity conveying method to convey the paper in the state to secure the paper-to-paper distance between the preceding paper and the subsequent paper, are freely switchable based on the determination whether a predetermined productivity switching condition is satisfied or not.
