IMAGE READER, COPYING MACHINE, AND FACSIMILE EQUIPMENT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To construct a system with less electromagnetic radiation, dispensing with components for electromagnetic shielding, by improving reliability in communication between an automatic original transportation device and an image reader body with the use of optical communication that utilizes a part of an optical system of the image reader. SOLUTION: In an image reader 1, a CCD reading unit 20 on the side of an image reader body 3 reads an image on the front side of an original S, and a CIS reading unit 30 of an automatic original transportation device 2 reads an image on the rear side of the original S. The image data of the rear side that has been read with the CIS reading unit 30 is transmitted by optical communication from an LED light source used for image reading of the CIS reading unit 30 to a CCD24 through a mirror part 23. The control signal to the automatic original transportation device 2 is transmitted by optical communication from the LED light source of an exposure scanning device 22 to an image sensor of the CIS reading unit 30.
