Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a receiver device and method for FEC decoding for remarkably reducing a waiting time of FEC decoding and a packet buffer size. SOLUTION: In one embodiment, a media packet frame receiver is disclosed which uses a real-time transmission protocol (RTP) and forward error correction (FEC). The receiver includes a packet buffer and an FEC decoder. After the packet buffer receives a packet, the FEC decoder reads the packet and performs XOR arithmetic operation on the packet, as part of FEC processing, without waiting for reception of an entire frame (or any arbitrary subsequent packet of the frame, actually). Results of the XOR arithmetic operation are accumulated until receiving packets enough to reconstitute a missed packet in the frame. The XOR arithmetic operation is performed immediately after the reception of a packet without any delay caused by waiting for a subsequent packet, so that a waiting time of the receiver is extremely reduced and the packet buffer can also be compact, relatively.
