Zusammenfassung: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal aligning agent for giving a liquid crystal alignment layer that maintains good liquid crystal aligning property even when the element is continuously driven for a long time, and suppresses reduction in a voltage retention rate and increase in a residual DC voltage. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal aligning agent contains at least one kind of polymer selected from the group consisting of polyamic acids obtained by reacting a tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride with a diamine containing a compound expressed by formula (A), and polyimide produced by dehydrating and ring-closing the polyamic acids. In formula (A), RIand RIIeach represent a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having 1 to 30 carbon atoms; X represents a single bond, a methylene group, an alkylene group having 2 to 30 carbon atoms, -O-, -CO-, -COO-, -NH-, -NHCO- or -CONH-; and n is an integer of 1 to 4.
