Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the dimension of a stator brake while maintaining the performance of a torque converter. SOLUTION: This torque converter includes the stator brake 8 composed of a brake case 35 arranged on the side of the inner periphery of a stator 7, and a brake fixing member 38 arranged on the side of the inner periphery of the brake case 35. The piston 55 of a lock-up clutch is supported by the outer periphery of the flange 24a of a turbine hub 24. The brake case 35 has a vertical wall 35a, an outer cylindrical portion 35b, and an inner cylindrical portion 35c supported by the outer peripheral surface of the cylindrical portion 24c of the turbine hub 24. The impeller 5 has a cylindrical portion 20a on its inner periphery. The brake fixing member 38 has a vertical wall 38a and an inner cylindrical portion 38c. The inner cylindrical portion 38c is arranged in such a manner as to overlap in an axial direction on the side of the inner periphery of the cylindrical portion 20a of the impeller 5.
