Zusammenfassung: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an environmental barrier coating for protecting CMC (Ceramic Matrix Composite) from a high temperature steam environment present in a gas turbine engine. SOLUTION: This method for manufacturing the environmental barrier coating comprises: a step of manufacturing transition layer slurry by mixing a principal transition material comprising at least water, mullite, BSAS (barium strontium aluminosilicate) or mullite/BSAS mixture; a step of applying the transition layer slurry on a ceramic part 10; a step of mixing at least water and a principal external material comprising BSAS with each other to form external layer slurry; a step of applying the external layer slurry on a part coated with the transition layer slurry; and a step of manufacturing the environmental barrier coating having at least a transition layer 16 and the external layer 18. At least one of the transition layer slurry or the external layer slurry contains slurry sintering aid, the transition layer has porosity having a volume 0 to about 30 vol.% of the transition layer, and the external layer has the porosity having volume 0 to about 15 vol.% of the external layer.
