Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress an increase in the frictional coefficient of a magnetic recording surface in a magnetic recording medium. SOLUTION: A nonmagnetic layer 2 and a magnetic layer 3 are formed on one principal surface of a long-sized nonmagnetic support in a wet on dry mode or in a wet on wet mode. When the magnetic recording medium is formed in the wet on dry mode, the diameter of a conductive particle contained in the magnetic layer 3 falls within the range of 3 times or more and not more than 5 times the average thickness of the magnetic layer 3. When the magnetic recording medium is formed in the wet on wet mode, the diameter of a conductive particle falls within the range of ≥1.3 times and ≤3 times the average thickness of the magnetic layer 3.
