Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a liquid crystal display device, which reliably prevents a polishing liquid from entering the gap between a pair of base substrates, in polishing surfaces of the pair of base substrates. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing a liquid crystal display device includes polishing surfaces of a first base substrate and a second base substrate, which are disposed to face each other across a sealing material surrounding a liquid crystal sealing region of a liquid crystal cell. The first base substrate includes an inspection mark and a spacer disposed inside the mark and higher than the mark. A sealing material is applied on at least a part of the end side faces of the first base substrate and of the second base substrate so as to seal the space between the first base substrate and the second base substrate.
