Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new metal fluoride crystal which emits light with high brightness in a vacuum ultraviolet region, and is suitably used for photolithography, the cleaning and sterilization of semiconductors and liquid crystals, next-generation mass optical disks and medical treatment (ophthalmology treatment and DNA incision), and to provide a vacuum ultraviolet light emitting element.SOLUTION: The metal fluoride crystals are expressed by the chemical formula: LiLuNdMF; wherein M is Tm or Er; x is in the range of 0.0001 to 0.2; and y is in the range of 0.0001 to (1-x). The ultraviolet light emitting element is composed of the metal fluoride crystals.
