Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for acquiring a wide retardation film having such optical properties that the visibility of a liquid crystal display device or the like can be improved, at a low cost.SOLUTION: A method for producing a stretched film comprises the steps of: conveying a long film stretched to the vertical/uniaxial direction to the stretched direction; holding both ends of the film on a conveyance unit, in a state where a partial region or the whole region of the film is loosened beforehand in the stretched direction by using rugged shape-arranged members; and heating the film while the film is conveyed in the stretched direction by the conveyance unit while holding both ends of the film, to thermally shrink the film in the stretched direction. The retardation film comprises the stretched film produced by this producing method. A polarizing plate utilizing the retardation film and an image display apparatus including the retardation film are also provided.
