Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing monosaccharides which is suitable for industrial production of monosaccharides from biomass, with a high reaction efficiency and high yield of reaction products.SOLUTION: There is provided the method for producing monosaccharides by carrying out hydrolysis of polysaccharides. In the method, the hydrolysis is carried out in a reaction system containing a heteropolyacid with at least four valences of anionic valency and water, wherein the content of the heteropolyacid is set at least 150 mass% to the amount of the water.
