Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pointer type display unit for carrying out a smooth pointer driving operation in response to a velocity variation, by shortening a calculation processing time for calculating a pointer angle without using any past data. SOLUTION: The pointer type display unit 10 includes a pointing position detecting device 50 and a pointer controller 60. In the pointing position detecting device 50, the number of steps of a stepping motor which moves a pointer from the current position of the pointer 12 at a start-up up to a target pointing position detected by a target pointing position detecting means 50a, is calculated by using a step number calculating means 60a. Then, the driving operation of the stepping motor is controlled by a pointer control means 60b, such that a period of an operation through the step number calculated by the step number calculating means 60a is made constant.
